Schumann’s review of Berlioz’s Fantastic Symphony

In July 1835, nearly five years after the premiere of Hector Berlioz’s Fantastic Symphony, the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik published a lead article devoted to this piece. It was the first of six instalments of Robert Schumann’s thorough essay, which was apparently written in response to Fétis‘ negative review of this work and represented ‘the longest and one of the most impressive articles of [Schumann‘s] career’.
